Recently Watched (R&R #1)

I thought I'd begin my blog (which has been abandoned and thrown to the back of my life, sorry blog) with the first version of 'Rates & Reviews' or R&R. Over the past week I have just been completely indulging in films, particularly films I had shamefully not watched or not watched properly. I have to say it's been an impressive selection. Due to the fact I'm going to include 4 in this post I will briefly describe what I like/dislike about the film and my personal star rating. In alphabetical order, I'll begin...

Burning Man (2011)

Directed by: Jonathan Teplitzky
Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
The realism of cancer, great performance from Matthew Goode as Tom yet the opening scenes were confusing and all over the place. I'm glad I stuck with it as it was worth it, but it took time to get into the movie and establish different points in time.

Dead Man's Shoes (2004)

Directed by: Shane Meadows
Star Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
I cannot begin to explain my love for this film. Each character is so appropriately and perfectly placed into the narrative. The relationship of the brothers, Paddy Considine's balances between grief, sadness and anger. It's an 18 for a reason, yet it's so well done even I (who doesn't get on well with horror and gore) was transfixed into the world.

Life of Pi (2012)

Directed by: Ang Lee
Star Rating: ★★★★☆ (4/5)
The visual effects make me want to melt, I love tigers so I may be slightly biased to automatically love this but on both an emotional and physical level you can just FEEL the struggle. I loved the story adult Pi was telling so much I was in places annoyed when it returned to the 'present' day. I just wanted to stay on the ocean and in Pi's moment as a teenager.

Trainspotting (1996)

Directed by: Danny Boyle
Star Rating: ★★★★★ (5/5)
Raw, gritty and so totally awesome. I can't believe I've put off the watching of this film for so long but I am kind of glad I have now my worldly awareness has increased and my innocence decreased. Was rooting for Renton at every single point, such a likeable protagonist.

As you can see I enjoyed all of these movies! All entirely different yet very entertaining to watch! When I post most of these film responses, it's more to keep a personal log of what I have watched and round about when, they're in no way valid accepted opinions just purely my own! Anyway, until next time!
